My Grandparents at their wedding in 1955.

My family has lived in Billerica for generations. After serving in Korea, my grandfather came back to work in Massachusetts, married my grandmother, and settled down on the corner of Manning Road in Billerica. Over the next 20 years, they had 10 children, and over 60 years later, they have created a family who’s roots have spread all across New England, the United States, and the world.

All of those roots, no matter how far they have spread, come back to Billerica.

We are a typical family: We have always worked hard for every dollar earned and we take pride in that. However, like far too many families in Billerica, times are tough right now. No matter how hard we work, it always seems impossible to pay that next bill. Teresa English knows this struggle because she has dealt with it for her entire life.

After her time in the Air Force, Teresa couldn’t find work and took a job waiting tables. She worked her tail off — standing on her feet all day long and still and lived paycheck to paycheck. Today, Teresa is a high school history teacher and her husband, Ken, is a nurse. They are a typical, working-class family just like mine. That’s why I’m supporting her for State Representative.

Teresa’s vision for the working people of Billerica has gained incredible support. She has the support of the IBEW Local 103, the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, and the Billerica Federation of Teachers. These workers trust Teresa–not Marc–to not only be a voice for them, but to also be a fighter for families like mine–for families like your’s.

Marc Lombardo has been in the State House since I was 12. He is seeking his 6th term in office and yet I can’t name a single thing he has done to better the lives of my family. In fact, I can only see that he has actively worked and sided with policies that hold us back. He has never supported an increase to the minimum wage. Not once. As a minimum wage worker, this is a slap in the face. Additionally, rather than discussing his own plans, he has retorted to lies and disinformation about Teresa’s campaign and policies — calling her a puppet of the “radical left” in emails to his supporters and claiming that she wants to defund the police. These are the petty words one would only hear on Rush Limbaugh’s show or on late night Fox News panels.

My grandparents worked hard for their entire lives and raised their kids and grandkids to be good, decent people. In my family, if you went to “Grammie School,” that means you’re polite. That means you’re decent. That certainly means that you don’t lie or spin the words of others for your own good. That’s what Marc Lombardo has done for the better part of a decade. He has gone to the lowest of lows at the expense of the working families of this town in order to benefit his long and entrenched political career. To use my Grammie’s words: he’s full of bologna.

Some people say to never mix politics with family. To that I say that politicians make decisions that directly impact my family everyday. It is only natural that when I vote, I consider my family.

When you go to vote this fall, think of your family. Vote for unity not division, leadership not petty politics, and honesty not lies and deceit. It’s time for change. It’s time for a State Representative who went to “Grammie School.” It’s time for Teresa English to be our State Representative.
